If I'm drinking some fine wine, I'm gonna find something to whine about!

I don't usually drink Merlot, but happened upon a nice bottle at a reasonable price and purchased it. It was a Northern California Merlot that had a taste unlike any Merlot I have tasted. It was smooth with a hint of berries, and absolutely no aftertaste. It didn't assault the palate as most do but instead provided a flavorful, albeit alcholic, slippery gulp.

Anyway as I was enamored by the wine, I couldn't help but add to the ongoing conversation about what little things irritate us the most day by day. Idiot drivers, for example, you know the ones that either drive too slow, turn towards the opposite way their turn signals show, or take their lane out of the center, or even turn suddenly with no signaling at all. I can't remember what brought it up, but when we got started there was no stopping us. Bottom line is, everytime you drive, you take your life in your own hands, you must drive defensively since most don't even pay attention to their surroundings. No courtesy, or even recognition that your there behind them, they seem to drive as if they were the only car on the road, at least thats what their knee jerk reactions seem to infer.

From there we finished up the bottle and opened another, not the same brand, but okay.

We must appreciate how a little wine can make the conversation flow, and a really good wine raises the discussion positively. It was a great night with friends and a good wine, and isn't that what makes it special?

How Is Wine Produced

Wine is divided into three main categories - fortified, sparkling, and table. Wine is known as fortified when a bit of brandy is added into it to enrich the alcohol. Wine is deemed as sparkling when it has the right level of C02. Table wine, the third category, is wine in it's natural form - which is different from any other type of wine.

Normally, grapes are the preferred ingredients for making wine. They contain an equal amount of acid and sugar, which can't be found in any other type of fruit. When drying the grapes, a high amount of heat is needed. To use grapes with wine though, you need to know the exact harvest season. If you don't pick the grapes during the right time, your wine will suffer due to the level of increases in sugar and a lack of acidic extent.

During the beginning stages of wine making, the grapes or other fruit is crushed by a large cylindrical container that will deflate the juicy parts of the fruit into large bags that are attached to the machine. Next, the juicy part of the fruit is fermented through the use of heat. During this part of the process, present yeast will help to convert the sugar into alcohol. Once the sugars start to break down into alcohol, the wine will get a buttery flavor.

Next, is the settling. Settling involves the yeast cells or any other type of material flowing near the top of the wine. Once it is at the top, it is then filtered with all sediments being gathered on the filter. Aging is next, which is where the wine is tightly packed away in special contains that won't allow any contact with air for months - sometimes even years. Once the wine has been aged, it is transferred into smaller bottlers then shipped out and sold.

When the wine is bottled, it is done in a way that makes it easy to distinguish the several types of wine. Colored bottles are preferred, as they will greatly reduce the risk of oxidation, damage, and several other possible risks. The bottles are also labeled according to their manufacturer and brand as well, which makes it easy for you to select the wine you are interested in.

Once you have bought a bottle fo wine, you should always make sure you store it in the right place. The most appropriate places to store wine is the basement, underground cellars, or anywhere else that is damp and cool. No matter where you store your wine at, you should always make sure that temperature stays around 55 degrees F.

Never store the wine in an area where the temperature fluctuates, as it can harm the wine. A humidity level of around 60% is also important, in order to keep the cork moist. If the temperature is too low, it can also harm the wine. When you buy your wine, you should always make sure that you store it in the right location. Wine that is properly stored and taken care of can be truly amazing once you drink it - making it more than worth the time and effort.

Incredible Loire Valley White White To Lay Down

Aging wine normally smooths out the overall flavour of the wine allowing it become more balanced, harmonious and mellow which is fine for reds. There is however the little known exception to the rule.

Wine is a complex breathing substance. A bottle opened now will taste very different opened several years from now. What you should end up with after a few years of suitable aging is more complexity to the flavour of the wine because the bitter astringent flavoured tannins precipitate out, acids lose a bit of their bite, and the taste of fruit comes out more.

But remember not aging white whine is a guideline and not a hard and fast rules. The exception to the rule are some French white wines which mature over several years. White wines of the Loire Valley typically improve with being aged from 5 to 15 years depending upon the AOC and the vintage. A new bottle of French Loire Valley white wine may be good, but a suitably aged bottle is even better.

Mild ocean air sucked up the corridor of the Loire River and its tributaries brings a tempering maritime influence far into France. The Loire Valley competes only with Paris and the French Riviera as the most popular tourist destination in France.

The Loire is France's last great unrecognized wine region. Some of France's best winemaking occurs in the Loire though few Americans are aware of it. Even many French are unaware of some of the gems now being produced in the Loire Valley. But sommeliers, wine-bar and wine-shop owners, the wine press from Paris, London, Brussels and Tokyo in the know spend their holidays touring the Loire Valley.

Among its sixty-odd appellations are perennial favourites like Pouilly Fume and Sancerre, bistro classics like Muscadet, extraordinary sweet white whines like Bonnezeaux and Vouvray. Vouvrays are gorgeous wines, some of the longest-lived and most complex white wines of the world.

The Loire's major white grapes are Chenin Blanc, Muscadet and Sauvignon Blanc. Each of these grapes are grown in other parts of the world, but the Loire Valley establishes the benchmark.

The best advice is to take a wine tour of the Loire Valley. No other wine region in France welcomes visitors with such warmth or simplicity.

A Look At Ice Wine

As ironic as it really is, ice wine is produced in quite tiny quantities. With the wine requiring only the fines of top quality along with a lack of availability, the product is incredibly rare indeed. Truth be told, you can find only a lucky couple of who are in fact able to buy the wine. Ice wine, because of the scarce quantity, can be very high-priced and out of the cost range for a majority of us.

A lot like the beauty of owning a diamond, ice wine is something that numerous of us hope and dream to experience at some point in our lives. Even though the materials are rare, the weather conditions are even more essential to producing this wine. Once the correct weather conditions arrive, the wine maker prepares to create this really rare and priceless wine.

The basic requirements needed to produce ice wine are fully ripened grapes along with a temperature of around five degrees C. The temperature wants to stay that way for several days, so that the wine maker can complete the procedure of making the wine. Grapes that are frozen throughout these incredibly cold temperatures are hand plucked at night by the wine maker and his assistants.

To produce a bottle of ice wine, full vine grapes might be required. When the grapes have been collected, they are gently pressed, so that you can collect the running juice only. The temperature creates the frozen water crystals, which are fermented together with sugars and also the particles which are found inside the free running juices. By means of this process, the fantastic and rare ice wine is created.

When you have been looking to attempt ice wine, discovering it may well be quite hard. As you in all probability already know, most alcohol and wine stores don't sell this rare wine. Discovering it on the net is quite challenging to do as well, unless you catch it at the right time. Even then, should you be able to come across it, it can effortlessly price you hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single bottle.

The top way to encounter ice wine is to uncover the correct wine maker within the Pacific Northwest region. Although bottles go extremely fast as soon as they've been made, you may have the ability to catch a wine maker with some on hand. Be ready to invest a hefty amount although. Even though it can cost a good deal and be very tough to obtain - the taste of ice wine makes it well worth the effort.

Network Marketing Whine Made With 100% Sour Grapes

Remember this is a business and although you try to work with all members of your group to assist in their success, you do NOT have to work with everyone.

You know a whiner right at the outset: Why is it so much money to get into your network marketing business? Why do I have to pay to work for the company? What happens if I can't get anyone to sign-up? Will I be able to get my money back?

A whiner is usually always a victim of someone else's actions: I'm in the present financial state I'm in not because of me but because of what so-and-so did. It's so unfair, I always do everything for everyone and I'm treated this way. My upline in my other network marketing company wanted me to fail that's why they would never help me.

It will not be long before this person will infect other members of your group. Other members who have the potential for building their business may suddenly quit under the influence of the whiner's negativity.

Your strategy at this point must be one of getting control over this bad influence and either this person must radically transform himself/herself into a team player or he/she must be isolated from the rest of your group. The alternative is his/her whining can spread like cancer as you watch entire legs whiter and die with team members losing interest.

Whenever I have to have a confrontational meeting or phone conversation with a whiner from my group, my end of the conversation usually follows this format:
1. Put yourself in my shoes. Do I work with you and listen to you constantly complaining about everything: our company, the comp plan, our products, etc.? OR do I work with those team members who will listen and are coachable?
2. You can whine or build your business but you can't do both.
3. Have you given it any thought along the lines of maybe this business isn't for you?
4. Based on your behavior you are unwilling to build your business. Therefore I can no longer spend any of my time assisting you. I work with the willing as I can't DRAG anyone over the finish line.

After this uncomfortable conversation it will go in one of these directions:
1. The individual will realize that they want to remain in the business and would not want to lose your assistance so he/she changes for the better.
2. The individual will leave the business and, of course, tell his/her whiner friends all about what YOU did to them to get them out of the business. Boo-hoo.
3. Although unlikely, the individual will contact your upline or go directly to your network marketing company. (Be sure you have written down the various comments this person previously whined about and to whom the comments were made.)

We all like a glass of wine every so often. But a constant stream of whine we can all live without. A netWHINER will drain you of your time and energy which could better be spent with those team members who are serious about building their businesses.

Why All Wine Connoisseurs Must Purchase A Wine Storage Cooler

Wine storage coolers are available in a vast array of stores. Even the lower end consumer retailers have gotten into the party. It is not uncommon to find great deals on these products from stores like Walmart and Target. Of course, for the more luxurious wine aficionados out there, high end retailers have more aesthetically pleasing and electronically sound wine storage cooler for sale.

What does a wine storage cooler do? It sounds simple and many of you are probably wondering why not just use the household refrigerator. The reason for this is that the storage temperature required for food to be kept fresh and the temperature required to keep wine properly cooled is different.

Food generally requires a much lower temperature. Another reason is that the continuous opening of the refrigeration causes temperature readings to change. Wine needs to be kept at a constant temperature in order to preserve its color, taste and quality.

Another problem to consider is that different types of wine require different temperature settings. You are not going to have this flexibility with a standard refrigerator. Many wine storage cooler are manufactured with the ability to delegate different temperature and humidity zones. For instance, if you have a fine bottle of white and a deep red wine, you can set two different settings in your wine storage cooler to ensure the preservation of the liquid.

Besides the obvious usefulness of the wine storage cooler, there is an aesthetic component to having one in your home. When a visitor sees a wine storage cooler, the immediate connection is made with luxury and class.

There are a ton of products on the market for you to choose from. The best way to begin your search is by viewing consumer reports, fine wine magazines and doing some Internet research.

If you go to wine tasting events, you might want to ask some of the other attendees and even the wine manufacturers which devices are the best to keep your wine as fresh as possible.

Becoming A Bartending Genius

Creating Atmosphere

Learning how to make popular cocktails using an on-line source or a book can teach you the basic mechanics of mixing, but it won't teach you how to tend bar. There is no substitute for a hands-on experience with the sight, feel, taste and smell of beverage materials. Immersing yourself in the atmosphere and energy inside a bar is what will produce a 3-dimensional sense of bartending.

Cultivating ambience is a by-product of charisma and imagination, traits a bartender should endeavour to have. Keeping the festive atmosphere during busy times is a result of maintaining a sense of humour and respect for your co-workers. Taking your Training for Intervention Procedures (T.I.P.S.) will teach you the legal issues you need to know in order to serve alcohol and the tactical manoeuvres you can use to stop serving a guest who seems to have reached their limit. Controlling your service area will prevent disorderly behaviour from disrupting the atmosphere you create.

It takes skill and tact to listen just enough to your regular patrons who whine, brag or complain about their life without getting personally involved. Remember, after a few drinks you will look like a superhero and benefit the bigger tip. Moreover, if you are looking for field data to complete your sociology study, you are definitely working in the right place to collect it.

Managing your Station

A great bartender needs an excellent memory. The ability to remember patterns without writing them down will not only earn you better tips, but will help you to keep your cool during the happy hour. Being as fit physically as you are mentally will help you to move nimbly around your bar lifting kegs as well as memorizing your orders. Make up your own short-hand and take notes. Although you may be able to keep multiple orders straight at most times, there is no point risking a blank moment during those high volume times when one question too many could suddenly throw you off your game with costly and embarrassing consequences.

Learning the art of bartending involves sizing up your crowd, knowing how to cater to their needs, remembering their drinks and memorizing their names. Keeping current with newsworthy events will help you to communicate with your patrons. Present your drinks with a personal emphasis; know who would prefer to hear low caloric counts, (Vodka and club soda with a lemon), an additive-free brewing process, or a hearty and robust flavour.

Understanding the Components

Mixing beverages generates unique flavours and sensory experiences. Enticing the palette with specific wine and food combination creates new taste sensations. In the words of Ezra Pound, "true genius is the capacity to see ten things where the ordinary man sees one..." Know the material of your art. Understand what flavours compliment each other and how the colour and density of each mix and layer. Use the proper names of glassware and learn what style to use to compliment different cocktails. Practise the art of presentation; know how to give a drink verbal appeal and to make it visually irresistible.

Learning how to sell your product and entertain your clientele will make the difference between an average bartender and a mixology master. A true bartending genius knows the value of a professional image. Appreciate your skill and value the ambience you created; don't lose it by sitting at your own bar and drinking your tips.

Prepare A Romantic Dinner At Home For Valentine's Day

Creating The Menu
This is the perfect time for some “Grown-up” food. Cook a separate dinner for the kids or order in some pizza. Let the kids eat an early dinner and then send them off to play, or watch a movie while the two of you enjoy your meal. If your children are really young, you may want to put them to bed before you sit down for your Valentine’s Day dinner.

Cooking a restaurant inspired meal doesn’t have to be complicated. Pick up some mini-quiches in your grocers frozen food section and bake them up as an appetizer. For a first course pick up a can of gourmet style soup that you just need to heat up. Garnish with a dollop of sour cream and some fresh herbs for visual appeal.

Choose a main dish that you can prepare ahead of time, so you can enjoy the evening. Good choices are baked salmon or chicken. Just place either one in a baking dish, add whichever marinade you prefer and refrigerate. When you are ready just bake it until it’s done. Serve with mixed greens and fancy store-bought vinaigrette. Grab French bread, or fix some wild rice.

Dessert could be anything from cheesecake with fresh fruit, to chocolate dipped strawberries to chocolate mouse that you can make ahead and refrigerate. Or serve assorted cheeses with a nice glass of red wine.

Setting The Scene
Set the table with a tablecloth, cloth napkins and candles. Take out your good china and crystal. Since dinner will be just for the two of you, you don’t have to worry about damaging any of your special tableware. Now is the perfect time to enjoy all these fancy goodies you received as wedding gifts.

Take the time to dress up, and do your hair and makeup. I feel sure you spouse will appreciate it and you will feel like you are actually going out. For even more fun get ready in separate rooms and ask your date to come pick you up.

Turn down the lights and light the candles. Play some soft, romantic music, or some songs that have special meaning for the two of you. You never know, with the right music, your romantic Valentine’s Day dinner may end with some slow dancing in your dinning room.

Staying in doesn’t mean you can’t have a wonderful romantic Valentine’s Day dinner. You never know, this may turn out to be the most romantic Valentine’s date yet.

Wine, by itself, is a great gift to that you can give to someone you care about. But if you make it more personal by adding a personalized label, that person will appreciate it even more because you put more effort and time to make it special. Wine can also be a more delightful gift for the health benefits it brings. Wine has long been known to be rich in antioxidants which help fight many diseases, including cancer.
Wine can be a great gift to your boss on his birthday or a colleague who just got a promotion but you can make a more lasting impression when you make your own personal wine labels. A custom wine label adds a personal touch that makes the gift-giving more meaningful and certainly more appreciated.

Wine Favors - What You Need For Wedding Ceremony Wine Favors

Place Cards/ Holders:

I've come across many varied location card holders and each helps to produce a unique 'feel' for your party. Popular holders consist of cork-shaped holders (occasionally made of real cork, occasionally not), glass holders formed as clusters of grapes and chocolate place playing cards that feature chocolate grape clusters. Your visitors can then take their location cards/holders home and use them as picture or memo holders (or eat them!). This kind of favor really does double duty.

Candle and Candle Holders:

Candles go a lengthy way it setting a scene or mood. And now days there are several glass gel candles (in genuine glasses) that appears just like an inviting glass of wine! Also votive holders, hand painted with grape clusters and vines.

Bottle Stoppers & Coasters:

These very practical gifts can also be very beautiful. I was given my first bottle stopper a few years back and couldn't believe how much I used it. An opened bottle of wine looks so special with a nice wine stopper in it. Make sure that stopper is a durable one and forms a tight seal with the bottle.

Edibles:

These aren't necessarily made from grapes - rather they are delicious treats that have wine as it's theme. Chocolate place cards, as mentioned above, are magnificent and truly one of a kind. You will find also mint tins with personalized labels; they can easily be refilled once the original contents (they arrive filled with mints or candy) have been eaten. Also cookies decorated in the theme and chocolate bars wrapped in personalized theme labels.

Unique Favors:

It's always in fashion to give a favor that is different than the usual. Glass magnets, hand-painted olive oil dispensers, and wine-scented bath soaps make distinctive and useful gifts. Beautiful to look at, wonderful to use.

Wedding ceremony Wine Favors Ideas

Planning a wine themed wedding event or grapevine wedding theme will take a little bit of organising. Read on for some wedding ceremony wine gift ideas.

Wedding candles are favourites amongst brides. They can double up as table top decorations for the wedding breakfast table.

Brides can arrange to buy cork candles which can be placed inside recycled wine bottles.

You can also purchase a wine glass that has a gel candle placed inside the glass. The candle is supplied in a red color which when lit will show a warm glow around the tables.

Wedding guests can stand up and toast the happy couple with their personalised wine glasses from the newlyweds. Your message can say a thank you for attending the wedding. A special message for every guest can be engraved onto the glass. You can add a little touch of class by placing a wine charm around the bottom of the wine glass. The charms can be a sparkly pendant or a harvest grape vine design. The choice is yours.

If you are both giving your visitors a bottle of wine as a wedding wine favor. You can also attach a gift tag which comes with it very own stamp. Couples can choose their own gift tag and monogram each wine tag. Welding On Stainless Steel Overview

Stainless steel melts at a lower temperature, is more resistant to electricity and transfers heat at a lower level. They also expand at a higher rate when heated than other metals.
This can cause problems when welding because it has different reactions than other metals.

Stainless steel reacts differently to heat temperatures and if it is given too much heat, it can warp or create other distortions as it cools. Also, it is not as forgiving as mild steel so any mistakes you make along the way will show up and you can scratch it easily.

Rather than to use metal tables that can scratch the metal some welder use an aluminum or brass heat sink. This can prevent burn through because it actually will absorb the heat. When you are working the metal it is good to use the least amount of heat that you can.

There are several varieties of stainless steel and they are more difficult to engage in the welding process than mild steels made from carbon, basically because their physical properties are different. Here are a few:

Austenitic stainless steel -- they are ones that weld easier because they have a lower thermal conductivity and they have a higher "coefficient of expansion" than other types of stainless steels.

Ferritic stainless steels -- these are harder than other stainless steels and they do not become harder with heat. They also have the power to create their own magnetism called, "ferromagnetism" that can get in the way of the meld. In order to stop this, these types of stainless steels us a ferritic filler when necessary especially in arc welding.

Martensitic Stainless Steels -- these are similar to the ferric stainless steels in that they are also magnetic but they will become harder when heated. Some of these will also have different percentages of carbon in them and if you have over a 0.15% of carbon, they will have to be preheated and post heated in order to make them work properly.

You will find stainless steel used in a variety of ways to build many products. You can look in your kitchen and find it in sinks in your breaker boxes and with some of your electronic counter appliances.

It is a major material that is used in construction of buildings, particularly with roofing, elevator doors or signage. You will also find it in the building of bridges and barrier walls.
Farming is another area where you will find stainless steel applications because they are used for milk silos , juice tanks and piping. The makers of beer and whine will use stainless steel vats to ferment wine and display it once it is ready. This type of equipment is easier to clean than others and is easily sanitized.

Wine Tasting And Its Art

You can easily detect a genuine wine expert by the way he handles the wine in terms of smelling and tasting it and not merely just drinking the wine. Anybody can drink wine but it takes a lot of experience to taste wine. Art of Wine Tasting.

Wines have become a staple feature of every household during meal times, particularly when they are eating red meat. Red meats like pork or beef roasts are best with red wines. On the other hand, white meats like fish and chicken are better with white whine.

There are a thousand and one varieties, or type of wines depending on the vineyard where they were grown as well as the type of grapes they are made of. It takes experience and a real romance with wine to be able to distinguish its characteristics just by smelling and tasting.

Basically, wines that have been stored properly should taste smooth. Wines that taste off or stale are either not of good quality or they were stored improperly and their corks tainted.

So how should you taste wine? Wines should be tasted by swishing the wine in your mouth, allowing your taste buds to perceive the flavor and taste of the wine. While the act of tasting makes uses of your tongue, a person's sense of smell actually does most of the detection. Both a person's sense of taste and sense of smell should be used when tasting wines.

The laws cover the same ground as for AC wines but are often less stringent on yields and grape varieties. In on aspect, however, the VDQS laws were initially stricter. The right to the VDQS label was only granted after an official tasting. Now this requirement has been extended to AC wines as well.

While the two senses are indeed very important tools in determining a wine's quality, the physical appearance of the wine is equally important. You can get a better look at a wine's appearance and color by pouring them in a clear glass and look through it using a white table cloth or other white background.

If wines are generally red or white, then why do we have to study their colors? White wines are actually not perfectly white because their color ranges from yellow to brown and green. White wines with darker colors have more flavor and are older. While aging improves the flavor of red wines, this doesn't hold true for white wines which may go bad with time. Red wines that are lighter in color are older. You will be able to examine a red wine's age by tilting a glass with red wine, allowing some to settle on the glass rim, and examining its color. When the color of the wine that settles on the glass rim is brownish, then it has been aged.

Wine experts also swirl the wine to observe how it moves in the glass. A wine that swirls nicely wine may mean it has a higher sweetness and alcohol content.

While the taste of wine is generally subjective as it depends on a persons taste and preferences, wine connoisseurs follow specific guidelines in wine tasting. Being able to taste and smell wine the right way can certainly to the pleasure of drinking them.

Take Notes especially if you are gone all day. Most wineries offer a list that will assist you on keeping track. When you get home to your local wine shop, you will appreciate having a cheat sheet.

All About Wine And Its Benefits

Aside from the cardiovascular health benefits of wine, there are still so much more. In fact, there have been hundreds of studies proving that wine is linked to preventing other health conditions especially when one drinks a glass of wine regularly. Below are just a few of the many benefits of wine:

• Wine can protect our heart, in fact, studies have shown that daily intake of wine, 1 glass for women and 2 for men, can substantially reduce the risk of heart attack up to 50%. If drank regularly, those who previously suffered from heart attack can also benefit from it by reducing the chances of having another one. HDL, otherwise known as good cholesterol, is increased with wine while LDL, bad cholesterol, is reduced. Blood clots can also be prevented with red wine thus, reducing blood vessel damage because of fat deposits

• Drinking wine regularly can also help our bones become stronger. The study shows alcohol content in the wine helps increase the level of estrogen and other hormones in the body which are needed to help build strong bones.

• Wine can also prevent other coronary heart disease and most of all, cancer. A chemical called flavanoids is found in wine. This chemical is an antioxidant which prevents bad molecules or free radicals from destroying our cells. In recent studies, a special kind of flavanoid known as oligomeric procyanidin which is found in wine can prevent and stop the hardening of our arteries.

When one drinks wine regularly, he can enjoy other benefits aside from those above mentioned. But one must keep in mind to drink wine in moderation because drinking in excessive amount can be harmful to our liver.

The Captivating Legend Of Wine Production - It All Started In Ancient Egypt

The history of wine is as old as civilization, the agriculture and the man himself. Archeologists suggest that wine was discovered accidentally during 6000 and 5000 BC. in the Fertile Crescent area, an area in between the Nile and the Persian Gulf. Archeological evidence has uncovered the earliest European wine production from crushed grapes in Macedonia 6500 years ago.

From the time of discovery of wine to today, wine has played animportant role in many rituals and customs of modern society . In the ancient Egyptian period, wine became an integral part of life, mainly funerary ceremonies. Only the richest Egyptians like the Pharaohs were able to enjoy wine. Wine was also common in ancient Greece and Rome and in many other European countries.

The Egyptian Times

Though scientists have identified a wine jar from Hajji Firuz Tepe in the Northern Zagros Mountains of Iran, the widespread knowledge of wine cultivation is believed to have come from Egypt. The wine making method was represented on tomb walls dating back to 2600 BC. Maria Rosa, a master in Egyptology states that wine in ancient Egypt was of great importance and only the upper class people and kings had access to wine. Rosa further points out that the ancient Egyptians labeled the wine jars with product, year, growning area and the vine grower's name, but there is no mention about the color of the wines. A recent discovery has shown that the wines in ancient Egypt were usually red.

The Ancient Greeks

Arrival of wine making process in ancient Greece is not well documented; many believe that wine manufacturing tradition was introduced to Crete by the Phoenician traders. Strong evidence of wine growing have also been collected from Minoan Mycenaean cultures.

Wine was a very important trading article in Greece business. The Greeks were able to set up their colonies throughout the Mediterranean and this in turn eased the export of Greek wines in the region. The Greeks learned how to prevent wines from rotting by adding different herbs and spices. Wine in ancient Greece was stirred in a glass before drinking.

Apart from trading, the Greeks used wine in the field of medicine. One of the well known medicine practitioners, Hippocrates, also known as the Father of Medicine studied wine extensively for its use in medicine, specially to reduce fever, convalescence and as an antiseptic. It must be mentioned here that the Greeks were equally aware about the negative health effects produced by the excessive drinking of wine.

The Romans

The Romans discovered the viticulture (cultivation and study of grape growing) and oenology (the science of wine and winemaking). In the Roman Empire, wine formed a important part of their daily meals as water could not always be trusted to be safe and clean. During this period, wine making technology became more established with a significant impact on the Roman business. The Romans developed barrels to store and ship wine, while bottles were used for the first time in the history of the wine world. The Romans are also known to have dissolved pearls in wine for their better health.

With the expansion of Roman Empire, wine production expanded to all of its provinces. During the Dark Ages when Roman Empire fell and when Europe passed through social and political unrest, wine production was kept alive by the efforts of religious monks. Churches are known to have developed some of the finest vineyards in Europe.

Ancient China and Wine

Although wine was not much of a favorite of the ancient asian people, its production and consumption was popular in three different periods, mainly the Han Dynasty, Tang Dynasty and the Yuan Dynasty. In China rice wine was not as popular as the grape wine.

Wine in the Middle Ages and Modern Life

Wine became popular in the Middle Ages, it was considered as a social drink for all occasions. In the northern regions of the Europe where no grapes were grown, beer and ale were dominant and in the Eastern part Vodka made from potatoes was the preferred drink.

America, Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand that manufacture wide varieties of wines are considered as the New World Wine Producers. The products of these countries were not well known to the wine drinkers until late in the 20th Century.

The industrial revolution in the 20th century has provided wine growers with new technology and innovation that has made production much more efficient. Considerable R&D advances in viticulture and oenology have helped the modern manufacturers to produce more varieties of wines of much lower cost.
